Frequently Asked Questions...

Q. What are Chinelas by Michelle?

A. They are a range of foldable footwear designed to be worn after high heels, so they are compact and small enough to go into your handbag. They are unique because they are the only shoes that actually folds outwards so you can put them straight into your back jeans pocket or handbag - without it's pouch if you like - and you don't need to worry about ruining your handbag.

Q. Where and when would you use them?

A. Slip on your Chinelas when your feet need some relief from wearing high heels or uncomfortable shoes all day. You can wear them on the bus or train to work, after the gym, after going out at night or on special occasions when you need to wear heels. You can even pack a few when you go travelling and wear them on the plane or have an array of different shoes because Chinelas don't take up much room!

Q. What does the name mean?

A. Chinelas is a Spanish word meaning 'sandals' and pronounced 'chi-ne-las'. There are slight variations of the word also in Filipino, Portuguese and other Spanish derived languages. Chinelas by Michelle was suggested by a friend while doing work experience at Mammoth Merchandise in Sydney to gain sales and business skills.

Q. What are the soles made from?

A. From durable, hard-wearing polyurethane rubber like normal shoes, they are tough enough to be worn on hard surfaces like concrete pavements or asphalt roads and will protect your feet from glass and other gross stuff on the street or at the nightclub (beats going home barefoot and sore!)

Q. How long do Chinelas last?

A. Chinelas are designed to be durable and can be worn around every day if you like. They are not disposable slippers that only last a few wears and need to be thrown out. The environment and value for money were important criteria for the design and development of this product.

Q. How small is it really?

A. The small size measures 13x10x45cm, medium 14x10.5x45cm and large measures 15x11x45cm

Q. How much does it weigh?

A. About 240 grams / pair

Q. What materials are they made from?

A. The upper fabric will change with each style, and the pouch will always match, so you know what the shoes look like even without taking them out of their bag. The insole fabric is EVA foam so it will cushion and eventually mould around your feet with wear.

Q. Where else can I get Chinelas?

A. Chinelas by Michelle are patented and available online and the stockists listed. In future they will be sold at retail stores - if you are interested in selling Chinelas, pls contact us

Q. How did Chinelas by Michelle get made?

A. Click here to read the blog on how Industrial Designer Michelle Chung wanted to help women get comfortable by designing this product, undertaking the production and marketing just so you can have your own pair! They are designed and developed in Sydney Australia.

Q. Will there be other designs?

A. Yes there will be new ranges with different styles and fabrics, please sign up to the mailing list to be first to see the new ranges.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. The Recommended Retail Price is $39.95 - If you think of all the times you've ever needed them - like after friday night drinks, after going to the gym, after going out nightclubbing, after weddings, after the work Christmas party, after friends Christmas parties, after New Years Eve, after New Years Day, and for every time you've stayed over at your boyfriend's house and wished you didn't have to wear your heels home - even if you wear them once a week, that would only be 77cents per week for a year!

Think of all the money you save on cabs - say $25 per cab ride because your feet are too sore to get home any other way!!! A pair of feet-saving Chinelas cost less than 2 cab fares!
